Still the Mysticism Stigma clings to Hypnosis

I was reading an article from the LA Times regarding hospitals and thier trend in looking toward alternative methods of treating conditions.  And I found something very interesting about the article.  When listing the alternative medicines, they seemed to dace all about, yet not quite mentioning Hypnosis/Hypnotherapy.

For example:

“A physician might prescribe acupuncture to a patient battling nausea caused by chemotherapy, for example, or recommend massage or meditation to help reduce anxiety and stress.”  One of the easiest sessions with hypnosis would be one dealing with stress and/or low level anxiety.  And what is hypnosis if not a slightly more advanced method of meditation?

And..

“According to the survey, the top treatments offered at outpatient centers were massage therapy, acupuncture and guided imagery. (The latter uses mental techniques, including visualization, to achieve such goals as reducing stress.)”  Again – Mental techniques, including visualization – pretty much what I do with a client in a session.

As much as TV and movie like to portray hypnosis as something other worldly, occult-like and mysterious, to be complete honest, there is nothing more natural.  It is easy and simple for someone to focus so intently on something that is takes all of their attention.  For you gamers out there, it’s the same as loosing hours playing.  For the workaholics, it’s the same as realizing you have been behind your desk several hours more than you had intended.  All of us have had the experience of loosing time, we just chalk it up to forgetfulness or inattentiveness.  I know I tend to loose myself in gardening.  And that is not a bad thing.

The benefit of seeing a Hypnotist/Hypnotherapist or Hypnosis Consultant, is to get that type of focus to direct you toward a specific outcome.  It’s in those moments that we are the most suggestable.  That is one of the reason, the banner ads on you smart phone are constantly flashing when you are playing a game you didn’t pay for.  With the right kinds of suggestions, a person can see some amazingly powerful and lasting changes.

Events and Workshops are here!

This year a new facet of my practice has come into being. Talks and Workshops have arrived. In these tough economic times, I have formulated specifically designed workshops to help you achieve the changes that you have been hoping to reach. With the tight budgeting we have all been doing, these workshops come out to be 50% less than a personal session and with and extra hour of material covered for that subject.  Each workshop will include a recorded hypnosis session for you to take away with you.  Truly a remarkable bargain.

The first of many workshops will be happening at the end of December and will be focusing on establishing and attaining those New Year’s Resolutions.  Seating is limited, so follow the link below to reserve your spot now.

For a list of all of the events coming up, check my Brown Paper Ticket Site

Testimonial From A New Client

Hi Gary,

July 26, 2011

The only thing about the recording I would share is that I think I need to listen to it when I’m not so tired.  It’s knocking me clean out.  The clarity is great.  And I agree.  The use of headphones is crucial.  Really takes away from outside distractions.

As far as results, so far so good.  Leaving the session I don’t know that my mind has ever felt more refreshed, relaxed, and clear.  If a guy could feel just like that every day you could conquer the world.  For the first time I can see myself taking critical looks at food.  Snap judgments too.  I don’t really have to struggle or think or force myself to do anything.  It all feels very natural.    I don’t know that I’ve had fast food since my treatment outside a single  low cal Subway sandwich that wasn’t my usual bacon-cheese-ranch-meat-splosion.  That’s strange for me.  Fast food is my weakness.  Prior to my session my meals would probably run like 20 bad to 1 good meal a week.  Now it’s about 15 good to 6 bad so far.  And this bad is no where near my old bad.  I’m counting calories and tracking progress there, working out, etc.  It’s great!

At some point I’d like to come in again for some work with productivity at my job and self confidence stuff.

Thanks for everything Gary!  There will be less of me in that chair next time.

SEP 6, 2011

Everything is going rather well.  Since our session I have lost roughly 17 pounds, have been exercising regularly and am already seeing my body take a new shape.  My weight lifting is steadily going up in weight, my cardio is steadily going on for longer at higher intensity.  My girlfriend is amazed at how quickly I pack on muscle.  I am too…  I already have the arms of an NFL lineman in just five+ weeks.

Most importantly, my eating habits are normalized.  I actually eat 21 meals a week.  No more skipping breakfast.  And out of those 21, I’d say 18 of them are good healthy meals.  Two are for my blowout day on Saturday, and one is a minor mis step.  They happen.  But the best part is, when I have a mis step,  I feel differently going in, feel differently going out, I don’t eat as much, and I can recover by my next meal without missing a step.

I’m counting calories via an amazing app called myfitnesspal.  Logging my workouts in a little notebook.  It’s wonderful.

One of my main goals was to begin martial arts training by the first of the year and I believe that’s going to happen sooner than I thought.  Just playing that one by ear.

One thing I’ve learned in this process, well I shouldn’t say learned because I already knew this but now I actually believe it because I’ve experienced it… The power of the connection between the mind and body.  I knew it existed.  I knew it was strong.  But I had no idea it was this strong.  By making hard decisions in the gym and following through, I am making hard decisions in my professional life and personal life and following through.  Working hard on my body leads to confidence leads to etc etc…  It’s amazing.

Oh, and my medication for depression and anxiety?  I have been able to lower the dosage.  Another goal of mine is to begin the process of being medication free by my 34th birthday next August.  I am confident that through diet, exercise, and therapy I will be off the medication I have been on for the last 6 or 7 years.

The short version?  Everything is going amazing.  Learning to trust myself, treat my body with respect, have more compassion for myself, the whole gambit.  It’s just amazing.

So thank you Gary!  You gave me that final push I needed to get over the top of the hill.  And now I’m a runaway locomotive with no brakes.  It is amazing.  It’s also inspired me to move into a new professional field.  I will be going back to school either this spring or next fall.  Ultimately, my goal is to work as a nutritionist/trainer for the obese.

Best,

JW

Change is never easy

Sometimes the idea of making a change is outweighed by the feelings of comfort and familiarity.  I have been seeing a lot of people lately who are stuck in their familiar patterns but desperately want to make a change in life.  Sometimes it’s as simple as doing the same thing, just in a different manner that can help a person make a shift in perception.  Other times something stronger is needed.

For instance, I have advice for people coming to see me to quit smoking.  Try drinking your morning beverage with the opposite hand.  Clean out all the ashtrays and hide them from site.  Start drinking more water.  Sometimes these small changes are enough to startle the ingrained habit and assist in making a change.  When you are planning on making a change, think about the rituals surrounding the habit or behavior you would like to change and see what you can do to alter them.  You may find that making that change is a lot easier than you thought it might be.

Resolutions Achieved Here

As the holidays fade into the past, we turn our sights toward the upcoming year.  And, if you are like most people, you are thinking about the things that you would like to accomplish.  Maybe it’s going back to the gym, eating better, taking on a new project or just an overall improvement in your outlook.  There are many things that Hypnotherapy can help you attain.

Hypnosis is not a magic process where you will wake tomorrow with all your troubles magically wiped away.  But it can be a very powerful tool to assist you in attaining the achievements that you have chosen for yourself.  It could be that extra boost you need to help you finally reach toward the future you have been thinking about.

Welcome!

Hello and Welcome to the new blog for Mindset Hypnosis!

Try and imagine your life in a better frame of mind.  Sometimes altering your viewpoint or your ‘MindSet’ can go a long way in helping you overcome life’s obstacles.  I have found that discoveries, changes and goals accomplished are much more meaningful and lasting when a person wins them for themselves.   That is what I am all about.  Helping people arrive at solutions for themselves.  Hypnosis can be a very powerful, easy to use tool that can help you achieve some amazing results.  That being said, I would be vary happy to hear from any of you.  If you have a question, I would be more than happy to answer it.
